In agriculture, succession planting refers to seve In agriculture, succession planting refers to several planting methods that increase crop availability by making efficient use of space, timing and the seasons. Here in RI we grow in zone 6b but with a beautiful salty air microclimate that some years make us feel more like zone 7. Our region offers a very long window of time for both cool weather crops AND hot weather crops. We can grow a crop such as ranunculus in 4 different successions….first in our heated gh, then unheated gh (2x), and then the field. Our techniques produce various crops from Feb-Nov. Crops we “succession plan” include (but are not limited to): *foxgloves *ranunculus *anemone *daffodils *tulips *cosmos *marigolds *dahlias *zinnias *dianthus *feverfew *scabiosa *poppies *viola and Pansy *snapdragons….and on and on and on. My most creative pieces are by the incomparable @larkpottery for whom I studio assisted from 18 years to present (when we get the chance-rare nowadays). This is one of my oldest and favorite vases from my years working with Lark, who also happens to be my original land owner (I started LSFC on one of her fields) and one of my closest friends of my life. When I asked her “can I make the flower farm work?” She said “YOU CAN DO IT.” And I believed her.
